Word is spreading of a bizarre demon-hunting cult gaining converts in the halls of Congress and the White House. With Christian Nationalism now controlling all three branches of the federal government, many elected politicians and other powerful government officials seem to have decided that now is the time to bring the reckless fervor of the Spanish Inquisition to the United States of America.

A shadowy organization that calls itself Capitol Ministries has been hosting weekly religious indoctrination sessions with Cabinet secretaries in the Trump White House, in both houses of the US Congress, and in many state legislatures as well. Capitol Ministries isn’t interested in gaining members from everyday people like you and me. Instead, the group is exclusively focused on gaining converts from among the most powerful political leaders in US federal and state governments.
This isn’t some generic Christian organization that just wants politicians to say that they love Jesus. No, Capitol Ministries is demanding that members of Congress pledge their allegiance to a specific, extreme, right wing Christian Nationalist ideology. The organization distributes a weekly memo with ideological instructions to thousands of politicians across America. Those government leaders are directed by the organization to find recruits among government officials to join the demon-obsessed cult, telling its members in Congress that, “Evangelizing your elected and appointed colleagues is of the utmost importance to victory!”
When we refer to Capitol Ministries as “demon obsessed”, we are relying on the organization’s own description of its activities. “Satan is having a heyday with America,” the group declares. The ideological instruction memo from last week is riddled with bizarre conspiracy theories about Satan, devils, and demons infiltrating the US federal government and American culture. The memo warns members of Congress of “satanic craftiness, cunning, and deception that you must be alert to and stand against!“
The memo instructs members of Congress and the White House that:
“All unbelievers are under the control of Satan... unbelievers are held captive by him to do his will. They are his minions.“
“Unbelievers are used by Satan as his agents.”
“The LGBTQ movement is a satanic attack!”
“The women’s liberation movement largely disconnects from God’s plan for necessary child incubation, bonding, and catechism. Again, if he can destroy the family, he can destroy the nation. Women’s liberation… is a scheme of the devil.”
“Regardless of political affiliation, everyone, including the media, works to some degree for one side or the other: Christ or Satan. We should be mindful that anyone can be used by Satan.”
Capitol Ministries is instructing members of the United States Congress and officials in the Trump White House to begin a government campaign to eradicate American atheists. The organization’s memo to government officials tells them, “Atheistic ideologies… are political schemes empowered by Satan that require godly political leadership to ascertain and defeat.“
Liberal Christians are a target of Capitol Ministries too. The organization declares that it is not tolerable for government officials to belong to any other kind of Christianity other than right wing Christian Nationalism, writing, “Theological Liberalism aka the Social Gospel, is a huge scheme of the devil – a satanic manifestation of vast proportions rooted in D.C. today.“
